2025 Year in Review: Celebrating 50 Years of Caring at Omni

Omni’s 50th anniversary year in 2025 has been a year-long celebration of caring, growth, and community across every residence, milestone project, and special event. It has also been a year marked by major redevelopment completions, new groundbreakings, and portfolio growth that position Omni for the next 50 years of service.

A Golden Year of Celebration

Throughout 2025, Omni has framed its 50th anniversary around the theme “Celebrating 50 Years of Caring,” honouring half a century of compassionate care, connection, and community. Anniversary storytelling has highlighted Omni’s journey from a single home to a trusted leader in long-term care and retirement living, emphasizing our mission of quality, innovation, and person‑centred support.

Special 50th anniversary observances have invited residents, families, team members, and partners to reflect on memories and milestones, including a visual “journey through the decades” timeline that showcases Omni’s growth and evolving care model. Across Omni’s homes, celebrations have woven the golden anniversary into existing traditions—such as Canada Day festivities, centenarian birthdays, and cultural events—creating local moments of joy that connect back to this company‑wide milestone.

Celebrations in Our Homes and Communities

Anniversary activities in 2025 have focused strongly on community, belonging, and intergenerational connection within Omni’s residences. Homes have hosted special “50th” gatherings, music and gardening events, and themed celebrations that honour residents’ stories while bringing together families, staff, and local partners.

Highlights have included Family Day and Valentine’s Day celebrations framed explicitly around Omni’s 50th year, shining a light on the “power of community” and the relationships that sustain residents and teams. Individual homes such as Streamway Villa marked the anniversary with dedicated parties and “walk down memory lane” events, turning the 50th into an opportunity to celebrate both Omni’s history and each home’s unique culture.

Milestones and Growth in 2025

Alongside celebrations, 2025 has been a year of significant operational and development milestones that reflect Omni’s long‑term commitment to seniors and their families. The completion of the full redevelopment at Country Terrace in Komoka, now a modern 128‑bed home, was marked with a grand opening celebration in November, bringing together residents, families, staff, and community leaders. This project, along with prior expansions, supports Ontario’s broader goal of delivering tens of thousands of new and upgraded long‑term care beds.

Omni has also celebrated groundbreakings for two major new 256‑bed homes—Riverview Manor in Peterborough and Presqu’ile Place in Brighton—underscoring its “building with purpose” strategy. In Southwestern Ontario, the organization expanded its portfolio through the acquisition of additional long‑term care residences, growing to a network of 29 homes and increasing capacity by roughly 30 percent to better serve communities in need.

Living Our Values in an Anniversary Year

Many of our 2025 feature stories have tied the 50th anniversary directly to Omni’s core values—compassion, integrity, inclusiveness, curiosity, and resilience. Dedicated blog posts have explored how these values show up in everyday life across homes, from the way nurses and PSWs are celebrated to how resident‑centred programs are designed and delivered. Focus pieces on Nurses Week, PSW Day, and long‑standing partnerships such as the Medline collaboration have underscored that Omni’s success over five decades is rooted in people and relationships.

Stories of centenarian celebrations, friendships between neighbours, and “more than neighbours” community bonds have reinforced what Omni means by “quality living” in practice. Through this anniversary lens, our 2025 communications have consistently linked daily moments—holiday festivities, Canada Day, Father’s Day, and more—to a broader 50‑year legacy of caring and connection.

Gratitude and Looking Ahead

Across news stories and social content, Omni’s leadership continues to express deep gratitude to residents, families, team members, and partners who have shaped the organization’s journey. We would like to take this opportunity to, once again, acknowledge the dedication of our Omni staff, the trust of families, and the collaboration with government and industry allies that made this anniversary year—and its ambitious development agenda—possible.

As 2025 comes to a close, Omni is framing its 50th anniversary not as an endpoint, but as a launchpad for the next chapter of growth, innovation, and heartfelt care. Looking ahead, we emphasize our ongoing commitment to modern, inclusive, and community‑rooted homes where seniors can live with comfort, dignity, and purpose—continuing the story that began in 1975 into the decades to come.

Holiday Wellness: Simple Ways to Enjoy the Season

The holiday season is a special time in our homes—filled with music, lights, laughter, and cherished traditions. It’s also a time when routines can change, days can feel busy, and winter weather can keep us indoors. Focusing on wellness can help us feel more energized, connected, and joyful throughout the season. Here are some simple activities to make the most of the holidays while caring for your body, mind, and heart.

  • Enjoy Gentle Movement

Even small amounts of movement can help maintain strength, balance, and energy. Short walks indoors, gentle stretching, or dancing to festive music can help keep the body active and the spirits lifted.

  • Create Cozy Moments

A little comfort goes a long way in winter. Taking time to curl up with a warm blanket and a favourite book, enjoy a hot drink, or listen to soothing music provides moments of peace and relaxation.

  • Connect with Others

Connection is at the heart of wellness. Sharing stories, participating in social activities, writing a letter to a loved one, or simply spending time in conversation with those around us can help strengthen bonds and brighten the season.

  • Nourish Body and Spirit

Balanced nutrition and mindful indulgence support energy and well-being. Enjoying festive meals, participating in cooking or baking activities, and taking quiet moments of reflection, mindfulness, or prayer all contribute to a sense of fulfillment and joy.

  • Celebrate Gratitude and Joy

Focusing on positive moments supports emotional health. Noticing small joys, sharing appreciation with others, or keeping a short gratitude journal can help foster a sense of connection, contentment, and mindfulness during the holidays.

Embrace the Season and Get Involved

Small, intentional steps can make the holiday season more joyful, peaceful, and meaningful. Try to take part in activities, connect with others, or explore new wellness practices that can be incorporated into your daily routine. Holiday Greetings from Omni’s Home Office Team

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

As we wrap up 2025, the Home Office team wants to send warm holiday wishes to everyone across Omni Quality Living. This year has been nothing short of incredible, and we’re so proud of what we’ve accomplished together. From celebrating Omni’s 50th anniversary—a true milestone in our history—to welcoming new homes and expanding our family, 2025 has been a year of growth and connection. We saw the grand opening of Country Terrace in Komoka, broke ground on Riverview Manor and Presqu’ile Place, and welcomed Heritage House and five APANS residences into the Omni family. Our annual Omni Forum was another highlight, bringing people together to learn, share, and celebrate everything that makes our organization special.

Beyond the big milestones, it’s the everyday moments that stand out—seasonal celebrations, staff recognition, and the sense of community that shines in every home. One of our favorite moments was during our holiday luncheon when, in true Omni spirit, we came together to donate over 30 brand-new toys to the K105FM Toy Drive—organized and delivered the very same day. It was a wonderful reminder of the generosity and heart that define our team.

As we look ahead to 2026, we’re excited for what’s next: continuing construction on new developments, strengthening partnerships, and finding even more ways to support our residents and teams. Thank you for being part of this journey and for making Omni what it is today. Here’s to a joyful holiday season and an amazing year ahead!

With gratitude and warm wishes,
Your Home Office Team

Embracing Wellness This Season: Tips for Nurturing Your Mind and Spirit in The Upcoming Months

As the leaves change and the air turns crisp, it’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and focus on wellness. Seasonal transitions can affect both our physical and mental health, so taking small, intentional steps can help us feel balanced, energized, and prepared for the months ahead. Whether you’re looking to maintain mobility, foster calm, or deepen connections with loved ones, there are meaningful ways to prioritize wellness this season. Here are some tips to guide you:

1. Prioritize Gentle Movement

Cooler weather can make us feel less inclined to be active, but staying mobile is essential for circulation, flexibility, and mood. Regular movement helps maintain strength, supports balance, and even promotes better sleep. Consider:

  • Short walks outdoors to enjoy the crisp air and vibrant fall colours, which can lift your mood and provide natural light for your body’s internal clock.
  • Gentle stretching or chair exercises to keep muscles and joints flexible and reduce stiffness.
  • Light strength exercises to maintain balance and mobility, helping prevent falls and improve overall confidence in daily activities.

Even dedicating just 10-15 minutes a day to movement can enhance both physical and mental wellness, leaving you feeling more energized and engaged.

2. Nurture Your Inner Calm

Seasonal changes can bring stress, anxiety, or a sense of restlessness for some. Taking time to create small moments of peace each day is a powerful way to maintain emotional wellness. Pausing to slow down allows your mind to reset, reduces tension in the body, and promotes a greater sense of balance. Some ways to nurture your inner calm include:

  • Enjoy a warm cup of tea or coffee while sitting by the window, observing the changing landscape, and breathing deeply.
  • Listen to calming music, nature sounds, or guided meditations, which can reduce stress and support mental clarity.
  • Practice deep breathing, mindfulness, or brief meditation for even a few minutes each day.

These pauses allow you to reset and reconnect with yourself.

3. Stay Connected

As the days get shorter and the weather turns cooler, staying connected helps keep our spirits bright. Relationships provide support, foster a sense of belonging, and can even boost resilience during challenging seasons. Whether it’s sharing a warm drink, taking a walk with a friend, or simply having a friendly conversation, nurturing relationships keeps our hearts and minds healthy. Consider these simple but effective ways to stay connected:

  • Call, text, or video chat with loved ones, keeping communication regular and meaningful.
  • Participate in community activities, social events, or group programs, which help maintain friendships and create opportunities for shared experiences.
  • Share a kind word or check in on a neighbor or friend, fostering connection and spreading positivity in your community.

Even small interactions can have a profound impact, reminding us that we are part of a network of care and support.

4. Practice Gratitude and Reflection

The changing season offers a natural opportunity to slow down and reflect on the things we appreciate. Practicing gratitude enhances emotional well-being, boosts resilience, and encourages a positive perspective on life. Reflection can be simple and need not take much time.

  • Keep a gratitude journal and note one or two things each day that brought joy, comfort, or connection.
  • Reflect on shared experiences with family, friends, or community members, recognizing the moments that bring meaning to your life.
  • Notice the small joys of the season, such as the colours of the leaves, cozy moments indoors, or a warm conversation with a neighbor.

Focusing on gratitude helps create a mindset of abundance and encourages mindfulness, reminding us to appreciate both the big and small gifts of everyday life.

Prioritizing Wellness This Season

Wellness is all about balance, connection, and intentional self-care. By embracing gentle movement, calming routines, social connection, and reflective practices, we can make this season one of health, happiness, and mindful living.

At Omni Quality Living, we’re committed to supporting residents in nurturing their physical, emotional, and social well-being through meaningful programs and activities. To learn more about life at Omni and the programs that support our residents’ well-being, visit us here.

Investing in Care: Omni’s Continued Support for the Senior Living CaRES Fund

At Omni Quality Living, we make a daily commitment to uplifting the people whose compassion defines our communities. One way Omni proudly lives this value is through ongoing support for the Senior Living CaRES Fund, a national initiative dedicated to helping frontline senior living professionals pursue education, growth, and opportunity.

Empowering Those Who Care Most

The Senior Living CaRES Fund was created to recognize and empower team members working in Canada’s long-term care and retirement sectors. Through financial support and mentorship, it helps staff enhance their skills, expand their career paths, and continue providing exceptional care to seniors.

This summer, the fund received applications for their Champions of Senior Living Bursary; a $2,500 award designed specifically for frontline employees in senior living homes. Bursary recipients also receive mentorship from a seasoned industry leader, helping them develop both personally and professionally.

Eligibility focused on employees who had demonstrated dedication to seniors’ care for at least three months and were either enrolled in—or planning to pursue—further education by September 2025. Applications ran from July 7 to July 31, with promotional support from Omni across all social platforms to ensure staff had the opportunity to apply and benefit.

Celebrating a Champion in Senior Living

Omni Quality Living is proud to celebrate Alioune, one of just 20 recipients nationwide to receive the 2025 Champions of Senior Living Bursary from the Senior Living CaRES Fund. This honour recognizes Alioune’s dedication as a frontline care team member and supports her ongoing education and professional growth.

By investing in Alioune and other champions in senior care, our organization continues to help build a brighter, more compassionate future for all who live and work in our communities. Congratulations, Alioune! Your commitment inspires us all.

Omni’s Ongoing Partnership and Purpose

For years, Omni has proudly partnered with the Senior Living CaRES Fund as part of its deep-rooted commitment to the well-being and advancement of senior care professionals. This partnership aligns closely with Omni’s guiding principle of Exceptional Care with Heart and Humanity, reinforcing the organization’s value of supporting staff as they grow in skill, confidence, and leadership.

By standing behind initiatives that offer direct and meaningful benefits to care staff, Omni helps ensure that the individuals who spend their days caring for others also feel cared for, supported, and valued in their own journeys.

Honouring Truth, Respecting Every Story: Omni Observes National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2025

On September 30, Omni Quality Living joined Canadians nationwide in recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day dedicated to remembering the Indigenous children who never returned home from residential schools, honouring survivors, and standing with families and communities impacted across generations.

At Omni, this day represents more than remembrance—it’s a call to education, empathy, and meaningful connection. Across our residences, team members and residents came together to learn, reflect, and express solidarity through activities that celebrated Indigenous voices and fostered a deeper understanding of our shared history.

Connection Across Our Homes

At our Forest Hill residence, one of our dedicated PSW’s led a smudging ceremony open to residents, families, and staff who wished to take part. For our First Nations residents, the ceremony offered a powerful moment of connection, reflection, and healing.

At Heritage House, residents, families, and team members alike reflected on the history and lasting impacts of residential schools and acknowledged the strength and resilience of Indigenous Peoples. Many attendees wore orange and participated in the activity of printing heartfelt messages of hope and unity on orange handprint cutouts to honour the healing journey of survivors.

The Streamway Villa community took the opportunity to venture outside and observe the day of reflection alongside neighbors. Many dressed in orange while exchanging stories, learnings, and remembering the affected children and families of residential schools.

Walking the Path Together

For Omni Quality Living, commemorating this day aligns with our belief that compassion must guide care, and learning must guide growth. Through listening, reflection, and conversation, our communities reaffirmed their dedication to equality, respect, and truth—all foundational to our mission of caring for people, with heart.

As we stand alongside our residents, families, and team members, Omni continues its journey toward reconciliation with humility and hope. By learning from the past, we nurture a more inclusive future.

As we head into the holiday season, we do so with full hearts and a deep appreciation for the people who make our communities so special. Thank you to our residents, team members, families, partners, and sponsors—you are at the heart of everything we do.

From all of us at Omni Quality Living, we wish you a joyful, peaceful, and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving.

Resilience at Omni: Thriving Through Challenges with Strength and Compassion

At Omni Quality Living, we believe that true strength is not just measured by physical ability or endurance, it is found in the quiet determination to keep going, to adapt, and to support others, even when the path ahead is uncertain. This is the heart of resilience, one of Omni’s core values, and an essential quality that shines through in our residents, team members, and community every single day.

In healthcare, resilience is more than a buzzword; it is a vital trait that empowers individuals and teams to navigate stress, adversity, and constant change while continuing to provide and receive compassionate, high-quality care. At Omni, we see resilience as the ability not only to recover from difficulty, but to grow from it.

What Resilience Looks Like at Omni Quality Living

Resilience is lived and demonstrated in countless ways across our homes:

Emotional Strength

Whether it’s a nurse offering comfort after the loss of a fellow resident, or a team member staying calm during a challenging shift, emotional strength is fundamental. Our staff show up with empathy and composure, even in high-pressure situations, creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

Adaptability

The healthcare landscape is always evolving, and so are the needs of our residents. Resilience means being able to adjust on the fly: responding to new diagnoses, changing care plans, and the unexpected, all while maintaining our high standards of care. Whether adapting to a new role or navigating pandemic-related challenges, our teams rise to the occasion.

Perseverance

Across our residences, we witness inspiring stories of perseverance every day. From a resident working hard in physio to regain mobility, to a PSW going the extra mile to make sure every detail of care is delivered with dignity, our community understands that progress takes time, and that every small step forward matters.

Self-Care and Support-Seeking

We believe that caring for others starts with caring for ourselves. At Omni, we encourage our team members to practice self-care, recognize their limits, and reach out for support when needed. Whether it’s peer mentorship, wellness initiatives, or simply taking a moment to breathe, we strive to create a culture where well-being is prioritized.

Optimism and Hope

At its core, resilience is rooted in hope. It’s the belief that healing is possible, that tomorrow can be better, and that together, we can overcome anything. From residents recovering from illness to staff facing personal hardships, the resilience we witness is often grounded in a shared sense of optimism and purpose.

Celebrating Resilience, Together

Resilience isn’t always visible. It’s often quiet, steady, and deeply personal. Yet it forms the foundation of how we care, how we connect, and how we move forward together.

At Omni Quality Living, we are proud to honour resilience in all its forms. Whether in a resident’s determined recovery journey, a team member’s unwavering commitment, or the strength of a family navigating difficult decisions, resilience binds our community together and moves us toward a future filled with hope and healing.

As we continue to celebrate our core values, we invite you to take a moment to reflect on the resilience you’ve witnessed in your own life, or better yet, share a story with us. Because we at Omni believe that every act of resilience is worth celebrating.

More Than Neighbors: Stories of Friendship in Our Homes

In the quiet hum of everyday life within our long-term and retirement residences, something extraordinary happens. It is in the shared laughter over morning coffee, the gentle rhythm of afternoon walks, and the unspoken understanding that comes from shared experience that a deep sense of community takes root.

At Omni Quality Living, we have always believed that care goes beyond the physical. While our team members work tirelessly to support the health and well-being of every resident, we know that emotional connection and companionship are just as essential. With 29 residences across Ontario and New Brunswick, we have the privilege of witnessing incredible bonds form every day. These bonds remind us that no matter our age, background, or unique experiences, friendship remains a vital part of the human spirit.

A Foundation Built on Connection

When residents move into one of our homes, they bring with them a lifetime of stories, hopes, and wisdom. What many discover shortly after arriving is something both unexpected and beautiful: a new chapter of connection.

Our teams are intentional about fostering opportunities for residents to engage with one another, whether through structured programs or simple shared moments. Over time, the small interactions—like a smile in the hallway, casual conversations shared at dinner, or an offer to join a game of cards—create the foundation for lasting friendships.

Stories of Friendship from Our Residences

Across our communities, friendships are blossoming in ways that warm the heart and uplift the spirit. These stories remind us that meaningful connection knows no boundaries—not age, not background, not circumstance.

More Than a Residence—A Community

While our buildings offer safety, comfort, and care, it is the people who bring them to life. Here, no one is alone in their journey. New residents are welcomed with open arms. Long-standing friendships are nurtured. Moments of joy are shared.

From music nights to gardening clubs, wellness programs to cultural celebrations, we design our communities to be vibrant spaces where friendships are not only possible but inevitable. It is through these connections that many rediscover a sense of purpose and joy that may have seemed lost.

Looking Ahead Together

As we look to the future, our commitment remains clear: to continue building spaces where compassion, connection, and community are at the heart of everything we do. We are endlessly grateful to the residents and families who share their lives with us and to the staff who help nurture these precious bonds.

Friendship has the power to transform not just a day but a life. And within every one of our residences, we see its quiet magic unfold.

Building with Purpose: Omni’s Ongoing Commitment to Growth

Omni Quality Living is entering a new chapter in its journey of providing care. This year, as we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we are proud to be expanding our reach and deepening our presence in communities across Ontario. Our recent developments reflect more than just physical growth; they show our ongoing dedication to improving access to quality long-term care.

Strengthening Communities Through New Developments

In 2025, Omni reached several key milestones that reflect its commitment to long-term care and support. Two new groundbreakings took place this year, for Riverview Manor in Peterborough and Presqu’ile Place in Brighton. Each of these residences will offer 256 beds and will be built to meet the latest standards in safety, comfort, and accessibility. These homes are designed to foster dignity, connection, and well-being.

Omni also welcomed Heritage House in St. Jacobs to its family of residences. With a strong history of personalized care and community trust, this home is now supported by additional resources and integrated operational systems that align with Omni’s values and vision.

In addition to new acquisitions, significant construction updates are underway at Almonte Country Haven, Country Terrace, and Village Green. These developments will bring expanded amenities such as therapy rooms, multipurpose spaces, and redesigned kitchens. All improvements are grounded in Omni’s goal to provide safe, inclusive environments where individuals in care can thrive and where care teams can continue to do their best work.

Aligning with Ontario’s Long-Term Care Goals

Omni is proud to support the Ontario government’s plan to create 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province. Each of our projects is backed by research and community need, and we ensure to always look closely at where our homes can have the most impact. This means expanding in places where there is limited access to care, and where families want to keep their loved ones close.

This growth also helps reduce strain on hospital systems. Our homes offer the right level of care in the right place, allowing residents to live in comfort while receiving support tailored to their individual needs.

Looking Ahead with Optimism

Our growth in 2025 reflects 50 years of steady progress. Each new project is a step forward, guided by the same principles that have shaped Omni from the beginning. We believe in compassionate care, close community ties, and a focus on dignity and connection for every resident.

As we continue to grow, we are not only expanding our physical presence; we are strengthening our purpose. Omni will keep investing in people, places, and partnerships that support high-quality care. We look forward to sharing more updates as these new homes take shape and begin serving their communities.

Omni Quality Living Celebrates Groundbreaking of Presqu’ile Place in Brighton, Ontario

PETERBOROUGH, ONTARIO / July 28, 2025 – Omni Quality Living (“Omni”), a leading provider of long-term care and senior living in Ontario and New Brunswick, proudly celebrated the official groundbreaking of Presqu’ile Place on July 25, 2025. This new 256-bed long-term care home, currently under construction in Brighton, Ontario, marks a significant step forward in expanding access to high-quality, compassionate care for seniors in the region.

Located at 20 Georgina Street, this purpose-built home will be designed to meet modern standards of long-term care, offering a mix of Basic and Private Rooms, along with spacious resident areas and contemporary amenity spaces.

Inspired by the natural beauty and rich heritage of nearby Presqu’ile Provincial Park, the new home is envisioned to reflect the serenity, sense of connection, and community that the park represents for so many.

“Our government is protecting Ontarians and strengthening our long-term care sector by building more homes where Ontario families need them most,” said Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care. “Today marks a significant milestone for Northumberland County. When construction is complete, 256 residents will have a modern, comfortable home where they can access the care they need.”

The approximately $100 million development is part of the Province of Ontario’s broader commitment to building 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province. In addition to expanding access to care, this project will create new career opportunities in the community and help alleviate pressures on local hospital systems by providing the right care in the right place at the right time.

“Today is an exciting milestone for the community of Brighton and the many families who call this area home,” said David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland—Peterborough South. “Presqu’ile Place represents more than just a building—it’s a commitment to making sure our seniors have the support and surroundings they deserve, close to the people and places they care about.”

Further, Mayor Brian Ostrander commented, “We are grateful to Omni Quality Living and the Province of Ontario for choosing Brighton for their latest long term care development. This project represents more than just bricks and mortar – it’s a commitment to compassionate care, community growth, and the well-being of our residents. We’re proud to welcome this investment in our municipality and are grateful for the collaboration between all levels of government and the private sector that have made it possible.”

Omni is working in partnership with Fotenn Planning + Design, SRM Architects, and VanDel Construction to bring this vision to life. With a design that emphasizes safety, accessibility, infection prevention, and quality of life, Presqu’ile Place will be a vital addition to the region’s health care infrastructure.

“Presqu’ile Place represents the next chapter in our commitment to excellence in seniors’ care,” said Raheem Hirji, President and CEO of Omni Quality Living. “We are proud to invest in this growing community and look forward to building a home that prioritizes dignity, wellness, and belonging for future residents.”

Supporting and investing in the development of this project, Michael Doner, Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer at the Hillcore Group stated, “Hillcore is proud to support Omni Quality Living as they continue to raise the bar for long-term care in Ontario. Presqu’ile Place reflects our shared vision of creating meaningful, community-rooted spaces.”

Honouring Marie (Locke) Westlake for a Lifetime of Service

At Omni Quality Living, we take great pride in celebrating not only the lives of our residents, but also the incredible contributions they have made to their communities, families, and the broader fabric of Canadian society. One such individual is Marie (Locke) Westlake, a resident of Omni’s Pleasant Meadow Manor, whose extraordinary dedication to service continues to inspire all those around her.

Recently, Marie was recognized for an incredible milestone: 70 years of active membership and leadership within the IODE (Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire) Bemersyde Chapter in Campbellford, a volunteer organization dedicated to education, community service, and citizenship across Canada.

A Legacy of Leadership

Marie’s journey with IODE began shortly after she moved to Campbellford in 1954 and married John Murray Locke. In 1955, she joined the Bemersyde Chapter, beginning a decades-long odyssey of service that would touch local, provincial, and national levels of the organization.

Through the years, Marie held a variety of executive roles within her local chapter, always demonstrating her signature grace, warmth, and unwavering dedication. In 1986, she stepped into a wider leadership spotlight when she was elected as a Provincial Executive Councillor, quickly followed by her appointment as a National Councillor for IODE Canada.

From there, Marie’s influence only grew: she went on to serve as Provincial Education Officer, First and Second Vice-President, and ultimately as a highly respected Provincial President from 1993 to 1995. Her contributions extended to the national level as well, where she played a key role as National War Memorial Scholarship Officer, helping to identify and support outstanding PhD candidates for one of IODE’s most prestigious scholarships.

Marie’s commitment and wisdom have left an indelible mark on the organization. Her efforts were recognized with Primary, Provincial, and National Life Memberships – well-deserved honours that reflect the scope of her service and the respect she has earned from her peers.

A Community-Minded Spirit

Marie’s passion for community extends far beyond the bounds of IODE. Over the years, she has volunteered with numerous organizations, offering her time, experience, and compassion wherever they were needed. In 2002, she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, a national honour that further reflects her exceptional contributions to Canadian society.

As mentioned above, Marie was recently presented with a special certificate from IODE Canada to commemorate her 70 years of service. The occasion was made even more meaningful by a visit from the current National President, Jane Cushing, who traveled from New Brunswick to thank Marie personally. Local members of the Bemersyde Chapter gathered to offer their gratitude and celebrate the lasting impact she has made through her mentorship, encouragement, and example.

“We are celebrating 125 years this year. They are a fabulous group of ladies that do good work from coast to coast. Our mission statement says it all… ‘Women dedicated to a better Canada.’”
Marie (Locke) Westlake

Today, Marie enjoys life at Pleasant Meadow Manor, alongside her husband Arnold Westlake, surrounded by the love of her family, friends, and fellow residents. Her remarkable legacy continues to shine through the values she lives every day: service, kindness, and community spirit.

Honouring Our Residents

At Omni Quality Living, we are proud to share stories like Marie’s. Her life of leadership and service is a powerful reminder that the values we hold—integrity, compassion, inclusiveness, curiosity, and resilience—are deeply lived by the people who call our residences home. Marie’s story is not only a celebration of her remarkable journey, but also an invitation to all of us to give back, stay curious, and remain committed to building stronger communities.

Thank you, Marie, for your years of service, your generosity of spirit, and the inspiration you continue to offer every day.

Curiosity at Omni: Asking Questions, Advancing Care

At Omni Quality Living, our mission is rooted in the belief that every individual deserves care that is not only compassionate and respectful, but also continually evolving. One of the key values that drives this evolution is Curiosity.

As we continue to reflect on the values that shape our homes, our teams, and our approach to care, we turn our attention this month to Curiosity: an essential pillar in today’s healthcare environment, and a defining quality of our care providers.

What Curiosity Means in Healthcare

Curiosity in healthcare is more than a thirst for knowledge. It is an ongoing commitment to learning, asking thoughtful questions, exploring new technologies, and understanding the needs of those we serve. It is the mindset that fuels growth and strengthens both clinical outcomes and human connection.

In a field that is constantly evolving, Curiosity ensures that our teams stay agile, informed, and prepared to deliver the best possible care.

Key Elements of Curiosity at Omni

Lifelong Learning
At Omni, we believe that professional development is never finished. Our team members actively pursue ongoing learning—whether through formal courses, peer collaboration, or self-directed study—to stay informed about the latest research, medical advancements, and care practices.

Critical Thinking
Curiosity encourages us to question assumptions and dig deeper. Whether evaluating treatment options or exploring new approaches to care, our team members apply critical thinking to make well-informed, thoughtful decisions for the benefit of residents and families.

Asking Questions
Meaningful care begins with asking the right questions. From seeking clinical clarification to listening to a resident’s unique concerns, our team members understand that inquiry is a powerful tool for improving care quality and building stronger relationships.

Embracing Innovation
We are committed to exploring emerging healthcare technologies, tools, and methodologies. By staying open to change and innovation, we can continue to enhance the services we offer and ensure we are meeting the evolving needs of our communities.

Patient-Centered Curiosity
At its core, curiosity is also about people. Being curious about the lives, experiences, and preferences of each resident leads to more personalized and effective care. It’s about seeing the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Curiosity also drives connection. Our team members actively engage with professionals across disciplines—such as social workers, dietitians, and mental health experts—to broaden perspectives and provide more comprehensive, holistic care.

Curiosity in Action

Across our residences in Ontario and New Brunswick, we see examples of curiosity every day. A nurse attending an advanced clinical training session, a PSW asking a thoughtful question during rounds, or a dietary team member exploring new nutritional strategies – these are the moments where learning becomes action, and care becomes better.

Curiosity helps us grow as individuals, as teams, and as an organization. It allows us to adapt to new challenges, respond to new information, and ensure that the care we provide continues to meet the highest standards of excellence and compassion.

Proudly Canadian: Celebrating Canada Day Across Our Residences

At Omni Quality Living, we are proudly Canadian: not only in where we operate, but in the spirit, warmth, and care that define everything we do. With 29 residences across Ontario and New Brunswick, our roots run deep in the communities we serve, and this year’s Canada Day celebrations were a true reflection of that pride.

From coast to coast—or in our case, province to province—our teams went above and beyond to bring joy, connection, and celebration to the Omni residences.

Forest Hill: A Sweet Summer Tradition

At Forest Hill, we hosted our Annual Canada Day Strawberry Social, a long-standing tradition that brings everyone together over a quintessentially Canadian summer treat: strawberry shortcake with ice cream and fresh strawberry topping.

The weather couldn’t have been better, and it was heartwarming to see families gathered on the patio enjoying the sunshine, laughter, and their strawberry treats. The event was a beautiful celebration of both Canada and community.

Streamway Villa: Celebrating Canada and 50 Years of Caring

At Streamway Villa, Canada Day was a joyful and memorable occasion filled with celebration, connection, and Canadian pride. This year’s event was especially meaningful, as it also marked 50 years of providing compassionate care in the Cobourg community.

Residents, families, and staff came together to honour both our country and this incredible milestone. The day was filled with smiles, stories, and a strong sense of gratitude for the journey we’ve taken together – and the bright future ahead.

Heritage House: A Day Filled with Celebration and Pride

At Heritage House, residents and staff came together to mark Canada Day with true Canadian flair. The red and white spirit was alive and well, with decorations, music, and plenty of pride shared among all who participated.

It was a day filled with joy, laughter, and a shared sense of community – reminding us of the importance of connection and celebration in every stage of life.

Looking Ahead, Together

Across all our homes, the sense of unity and joy was undeniable. It’s these shared moments that remind us why we do what we do – creating spaces where people feel valued, connected, and celebrated.

To our residents, families, and dedicated staff: thank you for making this Canada Day so special. Here’s to continuing to grow, care, and celebrate together.

Celebrating Father’s Day at Omni

This June, Omni Quality Living was proud to celebrate Father’s Day across our homes – bringing joy, connection, and a spirit of gratitude to the incredible fathers, grandfathers, and father figures who call our residences home.

At one of our residences in particular – Willows Estate – residents gathered under festive decorations, surrounded by family, friends, and our Omni team members, for a joyful and heartwarming celebration. The room was filled with laughter, music, and the stories of a lifetime. Residents wore smiles and crowns, shared memories, and enjoyed a moment of recognition for all they have given: as parents, role models, and members of their communities.

A Day for Legacy, Connection, and Love

Father’s Day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a chance to honour the values of family, resilience, and belonging that are deeply rooted in our communities. Many of the men we care for have raised families, built careers, served their communities, and shaped the world around them. This day offers a special opportunity to say thank you, to reflect, and to show appreciation.

For our team members, it is a privilege to be part of these celebrations. We understand how meaningful these moments are, not only for our residents but also for their loved ones. Our care is guided by compassion, respect, and the belief that every resident deserves to feel recognized, celebrated, and valued.

A Thank You From All of Us

To all the fathers and father figures who are part of the Omni community, we extend our heartfelt thanks. Your stories, wisdom, and presence enrich our homes in countless ways. You are deeply appreciated today and every day.

Celebrating 50 Years of Caring at Omni Quality Living

This year marks an incredible milestone for Omni Quality Living – 50 years of compassionate care, community, and connection. Since opening our first residence in 1975, we’ve grown to 29 residences across Ontario and New Brunswick, each one filled with the laughter, life, and warmth of the people who live and work there.

To honour this golden anniversary, a couple of our residences have begun celebrating in the best way we know how and in true Omni fashion: with joy, music, and community. Here’s a glimpse at how we marked this special occasion across our communities over the past few weeks.

Village Green

At Village Green, we held a party that was packed with live music, laughter, and games. The joy in the room was contagious as our residents and team members sang along, danced, and shared stories of their journey and favourite memories with one another.

This day was a perfect reflection of what Omni is all about: community, connection, and care.

West Lake Terrace

Over at West Lake Terrace, residents, families, and team members gathered to pay tribute to our journey over the past five decades. Stories were shared, smiles were abundant, and a powerful sense of pride filled the room. This event reminded us that our greatest legacy is not just the years we’ve served the community, but the special bonds we’ve built, and the new memories we’ve created.

Fifty Years Strong

As our 50th Anniversary celebrations continue across all Omni residences, we’ll be sharing more of the meaningful moments that reflect the vibrant spirit and sense of community that have defined us for the past five decades. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our story so far – and to those who will help shape our next chapter.

Inclusiveness at Omni: Embracing Every Voice, Every Story

As Omni Quality Living continues to celebrate 50 years of compassionate, resident-centered care, we are taking time each month to reflect on the values that have guided our journey. This month, we are proud to highlight one of our core pillars: Inclusiveness – the active commitment to welcoming every person’s identity, voice, and story.

At Omni, inclusiveness is not just a policy. It is a daily practice that ensures everyone who lives, works, or visits our homes feels safe, respected, and valued. From residents and families to team members and community partners, inclusiveness helps to foster the sense of belonging that defines our approach to care.

What Inclusiveness Means at Omni

Welcoming Diverse Backgrounds
We recognize that every individual brings unique life experiences, cultures, languages, beliefs, and perspectives. Whether it is honoring dietary preferences, celebrating meaningful traditions, or listening to a resident share a personal memory, we are committed to creating a space where every identity is acknowledged and respected.

Fostering Connection Through Shared Humanity
In long-term care and retirement living, connection plays a central role. Inclusiveness means creating opportunities for meaningful interaction, encouraging open communication, and celebrating what brings us together. Our homes are places where stories are shared across generations, where caregivers become extended family, and where diversity is embraced as a source of strength and wisdom.

Accessible and Equitable Care for All
Inclusiveness also means identifying and addressing barriers that may prevent someone from receiving the care they deserve. We strive to provide care that reflects the physical, emotional, cultural, and spiritual needs of every resident. Our teams are trained to provide culturally sensitive support and to deliver personalized care that upholds dignity and comfort.

Supporting Inclusive Work Environments
Our teams reflect a wide range of cultures, backgrounds, and experiences, and this diversity enriches our organization. We aim to create workplaces where every staff member feels heard, empowered, and supported. Through collaboration, mentorship, and open dialogue, inclusiveness is woven into our daily routines and relationships.

A Culture of Belonging

Across our 29 residences in Ontario and New Brunswick, the value of inclusiveness is present in many forms. It is seen in the way our team members will take the time to speak with residents in their first language, whenever possible. It is reflected in shared celebrations of cultural traditions. And it is felt in the everyday moments of kindness, patience, and understanding.

Inclusiveness helps build trust, deepen relationships, and create communities where everyone — residents, families, and staff — feels a true sense of belonging. It reminds us that quality care means more than meeting medical needs. It means making space for every story, every voice, and every person.

As we look ahead to the future of care, our commitment to inclusiveness remains unwavering. It is a value that helps shape stronger communities and more compassionate care experiences for all.

Compassion at Omni: The Heart of Care in Our 50-Year Legacy

As Omni Quality Living continues to mark its 50th anniversary, we’re proud to reflect on the values that have guided our homes and our teams for five decades. One of our core pillars, compassion, is what transforms healthcare into human care. It’s the deep awareness of the suffering of others, paired with the desire to alleviate it through empathy, kindness, and genuine support.

In healthcare, compassion is not just about treatment, it’s about delivering care that is holistic, emotionally supportive, and deeply human. It plays a critical role in the healing process and helps create stronger bonds between residents, families, and care providers. At Omni, we view compassion as essential to the trust and connection that define our communities.

Key Elements of Compassion at Omni

Empathy

  • Understanding and sharing the feelings of another person—whether that’s fear, grief, or joy.
  • Recognizing emotional needs and responding with sensitivity, care, and presence.

Active Listening

  • Giving residents and families our full attention, asking thoughtful questions, and responding in a way that shows their voices matter.
  • Ensuring that each individual feels heard, valued, and understood.

Kindness and Gentleness

  • Demonstrating care through thoughtful actions, such as offering comfort, lending a listening ear, or simply showing up with patience and warmth.
  • Small gestures of kindness can have a profound impact on a resident’s sense of well-being and connection.

Respect for Dignity

  • Honoring each resident’s individuality, rights, and autonomy.
  • Acknowledging their experiences, preferences, and values in every interaction.

Resident-Centered Care

  • Tailoring support to the unique physical, emotional, and psychological needs of every individual.
  • Recognizing that each person’s journey is different and deserves thoughtful, personalized care.

Support for Families

  • Offering clear communication, emotional reassurance, and a willingness to answer questions or offer guidance.
  • Helping families feel informed, involved, and supported throughout their loved one’s care journey.

In long-term care, compassion has the power to transform the experience of residents and families alike. It fosters trust, eases anxiety, and creates an atmosphere of comfort, warmth, and belonging.

As we mark 50 years of Omni Quality Living, compassion remains one of the values we hold most closely. It’s visible in our everyday actions, in a gentle word, a listening ear, or a shared moment of comfort, and it continues to guide us as we look ahead to the future of care.

At Omni, compassion isn’t just a practice. It’s a promise.

Celebrating Nurses Week 2025 by Honouring the Heart of Care at Omni

Every May, National Nursing Week gives us the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the critical role nurses play in delivering compassionate, expert care to individuals and communities across the country. This year, Nurses Week 2025 ran from May 6 to 12, with the theme “Nurses: The Heartbeat of Health Care.” It’s a fitting tribute to the dedication, resilience, and leadership nurses bring to healthcare every single day.

This year’s theme acknowledges not only the essential contributions of nurses at the bedside, but also their role as advocates, educators, and leaders across every area of the healthcare system. It’s about recognizing that nurses are the pulse of quality care, steadfast in their commitment to supporting others, even in the most challenging circumstances.

At Omni Quality Living, we are proud to honour our nurses who embody this theme every day. Across our 28 residences, our nursing teams provide more than medical support, they deliver comfort, guidance, and a sense of security to our residents and their families. Whether they’re responding to complex medical needs or simply offering a quiet moment of kindness, our nurses represent the best of Omni’s mission: to provide care with integrity, compassion, and respect.

Their presence is felt not just in treatments and routines, but in the emotional and human connections they form with residents. It’s in the trust they build, the dignity they uphold, and the unwavering commitment they show, even on the hardest days. Our nurses are the heartbeat of each Omni residence, and their work is what transforms our homes from facilities into communities.

As we celebrate 50 years of Omni Quality Living, we reflect with gratitude on the countless nurses, past and present, who have shaped our culture of care. Their contributions continue to inspire, to heal, and to make a lasting impact in the lives of so many.

To all the nurses in the Omni family: thank you. Your compassion, strength, and dedication make all the difference. Happy Nurses Week!

Celebrating Omni’s Personal Support Workers on PSW Day

May 19 marked Personal Support Worker (PSW) Day, a day to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions PSWs make to the health, comfort, and dignity of those in their care. These frontline heroes are at the heart of long-term care, supporting residents with compassion, respect, and unwavering dedication.

PSW Day shines a spotlight on the essential role PSWs play in homes, hospitals, and communities across Canada. Their work is deeply personal, helping residents with daily activities, providing emotional support, and creating meaningful connections that go far beyond routine care. In many cases, PSWs are the first and last faces residents see each day. Their empathy, resilience, and attentiveness make a profound difference in the lives of those they serve.

This year’s PSW Day also reminded us of the challenges and responsibilities these care professionals shoulder, and how critical it is to acknowledge, support, and uplift their work every day, not just once a year.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Omni’s PSWs

At Omni Quality Living, we are proud to have exceptional PSWs across all of our homes in Ontario and New Brunswick. They embody our mission and values in every interaction, bringing comfort, safety, and a sense of belonging to every resident they support.

Whether it’s offering a warm smile, assisting with mobility, or simply taking the time to listen, our PSWs show up every day with integrity, compassion, and purpose. Their impact is immeasurable, and our homes would not be the same without their presence.

On this PSW Day, we extend our deepest thanks to all PSWs at Omni and beyond. Your care is essential, your work is valued, and your dedication is never taken for granted.

Happy PSW Day, and thank you for all that you do.

Integrity at Omni: A Pillar of Trust, Respect, and 50 Years of Commitment

As Omni Quality Living celebrates 50 years of excellence in long-term care, we’re reflecting on the values that have shaped our homes and guided our team members for half a century. One of those core values, integrity, is the foundation of trust between our team members, residents, and their families. It’s a guiding principle and stands at the heart of everything we do.

Integrity refers to the quality of being honest, having strong moral principles, and being consistently ethical in one’s actions, even when no one is watching. It involves a sense of doing what is right, fair, and transparent. Making decisions that are in the best interest of others, particularly in environments where trust is paramount, such as healthcare.

Integrity is fundamental to resident care, team dynamics, and the broader organizational culture. It encompasses honesty, accountability, transparency, and adherence to ethical standards. Healthcare professionals with integrity can be trusted to provide the best care, maintain patient confidentiality, and act responsibly, ensuring resident safety and upholding a high standard of values.

Key Elements of Integrity at Omni

Honesty and Transparency

  • Providing clear, truthful, and accurate information to residents, families, and colleagues.
  • Promptly disclosing mistakes or errors and taking responsibility to correct them.

Accountability

  • Owning one’s actions and decisions, even when challenges arise.
  • Admitting when things go wrong and learning from the experience to improve care and teamwork.

Confidentiality

  • Respecting the privacy of our residents and protecting their personal health information.
  • Ensuring that sensitive data is only shared with authorized individuals for the right reasons.

Ethical Decision-Making

  • Aligning all decisions with ethical standards, professional codes of conduct, and the best interests of the resident.
  • Considering how choices affect not just individuals, but families and fellow care providers.

Fairness and Respect for All

  • Treating every person with equal dignity and respect, regardless of background or circumstance.
  • Promoting fairness in how care, resources, and attention are provided across our homes.

In long-term care settings, where residents often rely on others for support, integrity is what builds trust and creates a safe, respectful environment. It’s what assures families that their loved ones are not just receiving care, but are being seen, heard, and valued every single day.

As we celebrate 50 years of service at Omni, integrity remains one of the pillars that has shaped our journey and continues to guide our future. It’s something we strive to demonstrate in every action, decision, and relationship. It’s what helps turn our residences into communities, and our care into something truly meaningful.
