May 19 marked Personal Support Worker (PSW) Day, a day to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions PSWs make to the health, comfort, and dignity of those in their care. These frontline heroes are at the heart of long-term care, supporting residents with compassion, respect, and unwavering dedication.

PSW Day shines a spotlight on the essential role PSWs play in homes, hospitals, and communities across Canada. Their work is deeply personal, helping residents with daily activities, providing emotional support, and creating meaningful connections that go far beyond routine care. In many cases, PSWs are the first and last faces residents see each day. Their empathy, resilience, and attentiveness make a profound difference in the lives of those they serve.

This year’s PSW Day also reminded us of the challenges and responsibilities these care professionals shoulder, and how critical it is to acknowledge, support, and uplift their work every day, not just once a year.
