Truth and Reconciliation: A Time to Listen and Reflect

September 30 marked the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour Survivors, their families and Indigenous communities across Canada.

At Village Green, residents and team members came together for an afternoon of learning, connection and reflection with guest speakers from the Tsi Kanonhkhwatsheríyo Indigenous Interprofessional Primary Care Team.

More than 20 residents, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, took part in the afternoon. Together, they created sacred medicine pouches, listened to a story, and shared a strawberry drink. The afternoon provided an opportunity for residents to learn, ask questions, and connect with one another in a welcoming environment.

Creating opportunities like this helps encourage understanding and respect while recognizing the importance of Indigenous voices, cultures and traditions. It also reminds us that truth and reconciliation is an ongoing journey that extends beyond September 30.

At Omni Quality Living, our communities bring together people from many different backgrounds and experiences. We believe creating welcoming and inclusive spaces starts with listening to one another, learning from each other, and treating every person with dignity and respect.

We are grateful to everyone who helped make the afternoon at Village Green meaningful and memorable. As we reflect National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we can carry these values of listening, learning, respect and connection with us throughout the year.
